About the Foundation

The Jalmari and Rauha Ahokas Foundation was established in 1957 by Jalmari Ahokas, a Finnish industrialist. The foundation received its major endowments from Jalmari Ahokas in 1958 and 1965, from his wife Rauha Ahokas in 1968 and 1972, and from their daughter Seija Ahokas in 1987. The Hilja and Pekka Vuorisalo Fund, operating in connection with the Jalmari and Rauha Ahokas Foundation, was established in 1985.


Scope of Support

The Jalmari and Rauha Ahokas foundation supports research on psychiatry, endocrinology, and pulmonary diseases. The Hilja and Pekka Vuorisalo Fund supports cancer research conducted in the University of Helsinki.


About the Grants

Grants are awarded every second year; next time in 2008. The Foundation awards one major research grant for research groups and smaller personal grants (3,000 - 10,000 Euros). For research conducted abroad, e.g. postdoctoral fellowships, the maximum personal grant is 14,500 Euros. The deadline for the applications is 31st August 2008. For more information, contact:
